SUMMER SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM
CREATIVE ART PACKS AND CREATIVE KIDS VOUCHERS
TERM 1 2022 SNEAK PEEK
STUDENT AND ALUMNI NEWS
It seems the Gooray’murrai has arrived later this year, and the D’harawal peoples knew that with this season of the Parradowee (the Eel) could come massive storms and flooding rain making it a poor decision to camp too close to rivers, and this is definitely one of those seasons!
This was a time for catching prawns on moonless nights and the fish would be running in the rivers. This was also the time to get ready for Burran the season of the hot and dry. It will be interesting to see if Barindah (Angophora Hispida) is still flowering to let us know that honey production from the native bees, Naga, is still in full swing! *

CREATIVE WATER COLOUR
One day workshop with Nettie Lodge
January 15th 2022, 10:00am – 2:00pm
The medium of Water Colour is extensive, mysterious, beautiful and spontaneous.
Understanding its nature and using it creatively unleashes a spirit and enables us to explore the wonderful world of the unknown. Watercolour techniques can enable the artist to explore images and concepts expressively, abstractly, realistically and intimately with the freedom that transparency, colour and water allow.
What you will learn:
Nettie will guide the participants through a series of fun, creative, visual exercises, exploring watercolour techniques including colour theory exercises, using different types of papers, tone, texture, depth, light, masking, expression, abstraction and realism. Following a series of demonstrations, the participants will experiment with all aspects demonstrated and work up a final piece of work of their own with one on one instruction from Nettie.
This workshop is beneficial for beginners to advanced and for those with no previous art experience.
Pre-requisites: curiosity, a love of water colour
Cost per person: $120
Contact Nettie for enrolments: nettiel@iprimus.com.au

TERM 1 COURSEWORK SNEAK PEEK
STUDENT AND ALUMNI NEWS
Sydney Art Space Alumni Elly Buckley is a finalist in this year’s Montalto Sculpture Prize with her sculpture Now I See You, constructed of mild steel and coloured perspex. Congratulations Elly!
“Furthering my exploration on the theme of “The Senses” (Montalto exhibit 2019 “I Close my Eyes so I shall See”) I present my newest work – “Now I see you”.
To engage with sculpture is not simply a solitary event, people come together to share an experience, thus with my theme of “The Senses” I had great fun. “Now I See You” portrays a strikingly abstract pose, the figure emerges as if by chance, and yet “no”, the eye appears to follow the viewer asking for critical reflection. “
Mother and daughter Anne and Kauri Palmer, both Sydney Art Space sculpture alumni who attended Sculpture Workshops on Saturdays for many years working on their own projects with tutor Nik Price, have different artworks on exhibit at present and we are very proud of both of their achievements!!
Anne has a wall sculpture in Eden Gardens, Macquarie Park made from recycled paper and titled Gold Leaf.
Kauri has an artwork selected for the Inaugural Northern Beaches Environmental Art and Design Award and it is situated above Mona Vale Library. A beautiful nature bowl made from recycled timber and leather.
It has been another strange and challenging year for us all and this will be the second year that we have been unable to hold an annual Sydney Art Space Art Exhibition due to COVID restrictions at the Avalon Recreation Centre.
Nevertheless, stay tuned as we plan a revival exhibition early in 2022 to celebrate all our hard work!
Wishing you and yours a safe, fun and creatively curious Christmas :)
Happy Creating,
Christine and the Sydney Art Space Team
